A car accident Friday, involving an ambulance in route to the hospital, was broadsided by a car in the intersection and caught fire.

The crash claimed the lives of three emergency technicians and two patients, State Highway Patrol said.

The patients onboard the ambulance, were being treated from a previous crash when the ambulance was hit in Crane Township, next to Toledo.

A fourth emergency technician and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment, police said. Their conditions were not available.

Names of those involved in the tragic crash have been withheld pending family notification. State Highway Patrol will continue investigating the accident.
