FDA Warns Consumers About Tainted Weight Loss Products

The FDA recently issued a nationwide alert to consumers about almost 70 weight loss pills that contain undeclared, active pharmacuetical ingredients that may put the health of consumers at risk. The list contains weight loss products such as Slim Fast and 3 Day Diet.

Some of the products claim to be "natural" or "herbal,", but actually contain potentially harmful ingredients that have not been approved by the FDA, such as sibutramine (a controlled substance), rimonabant (a drug not approved for marketing in the United States), phenytoin (an anti-seizure medication), phenolphthalein (a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer causing agent) and bumetanide (a diuretic).
